Introducing Kieley Kimmel

L.A.-based Kieley Kimmel is quickly becoming a cult designer, and with good reason. Her clothing is smart and conceptual, but utterly wearable and flattering. It's the best of both worlds. The pieces are beautifully finished and the fabrics are wonderful.

RISD-trained as a textile designer, Kieley begins each collection with a deeply researched project that is of personal interest to her. She begins taking photographs, paints them by hand and manipulates them with photoshop to develop textile designs. The clothing designs emerge from the textiles.

The small introductory collection I have for spring is part of Ms. Kimmel's collection called "The Arcaves":
The Spring/Summer 2014 collection is inspired by Walter Benjamin’s sprawling
non-fiction surrealist epic, The Arcades Project, which uses the iron and glass
roof arcades in 19th century Paris as an apparatus to investigate Parisian
society’s transition from a culture of production to one of consumption. The
collection focuses on Sutro Baths, the massive 19th century public bathhouse
along the coast of San Francisco. The luxurious complex contained seven
swimming pools and the power of the Pacific Ocean during high tide could fill
the 1.7 million gallons of water required for all the pools in just one hour. Sutro
Baths burned down in 1966 and what only remains are its ruins. The collection
explores what Sutro Baths was and represented in its heyday: bath themes,
concrete surfaces, light and space, water, watermarks, and comfort and the
emergence of leisure culture.
The Wrap Dress and Swing Skirt are both made of 100% washed silk in a really beautiful shade of earthy maroon. The color looks iridescent in the sunlight—really stunning!

The Swing Skirt is mid-length and has two silk panels in the front that provide the movement and interest of layers. There are slip pockets. Wear it now with a loosely knit, easy sweater and flat boots or clogs. Wear it later with a linen top and ballet flats or sandals.

The Wrap Dress is equally lovely. Short sleeves, knee-length, substantial washed silk perfection! This would look fantastic with Ilsa Loves Rick's Circle Necklace.  Wear it now with sleek heeled ankle boots and a silk jacket; wear it in the spring with a pretty scarf and clogs; in warmer weather just slip it on with a pair of sandals and you're good.

I'm really pleased to be carrying this designer!
